Hello everyone! Due to current world events, the schedule for the event is changing a little to account for community stress and anxiety. Below is also an in-depth FAQ on both writer and artist requirements, signups, etc.
WRITERS:
ARTISTS:
There is no official artist signup for this event - instead, you sign up by claiming something. This way, if nothing quite piques your interest, no harm, no foul! However, we encourage you to get into new fandoms and maybe create for something you're not as familiar with.
Formats accepted as art for this big bang event include: a fanmix of 12-20 songs, a fanvideo, a podfic, a piece of fanart (traditional or digital), a batch of 8 icons, two banners/title art pieces, or alternate art as suggested to and approved by both the writer and the mod team. The artist must create two or more of the listed, but can sign up in groups. To make it more clear, one fic should get (at least) a fanmix and a podfic, or a double-size fanmix, or four banners, or two art pieces, etc. whether created by one person or two people working together. That means if you and your friend sign up together as a co-artist team, one of you can make a fanvideo and the other can draw something, for example.
The main requirement on art is that it must be viewable in some way online - photographs of papier mache are fine as long as you have decent lighting - and you must have put a reasonable amount of work into it. You also must have cooperated with your writer and made something FOR their work.
Interested artists who don't want to lose track of the event and/or want to keep up with announcements can join our Discord in the links section below!

WRITERS:
What You're Writing
As a writer, you are responsible for a fanfiction of at least 15k (fifteen thousand) words! This fanfiction can take a variety of formats. If you want to do it all as a single oneshot, excellent! If you want to write a multichapter fic, go ahead! Connected short stories are absolutely fine, as are interactive fiction, Twine games, verse fics, and experimental prose/poetry hybrids. The requirements that the fic MUST follow are:
1) It must focus on a villain from an established canon of some sort (no original fiction this time around, apologies!) that the mods have approved in some way or another, either through the posted eligibility list or directly.
1) It must focus on a villain from an established canon of some sort (no original fiction this time around, apologies!) that the mods have approved in some way or another, either through the posted eligibility list or directly.
2) It must be in English. (Apologies again - coordinating other languages when the mods aren't fluent in more than one is complicated. Segments in other languages w/ supplied translations is A-OK!)
3) It must form a coherent story. (Or semi-coherent, if you write like Jeff Vandermeer, but you understand the general gist.)
The villains do not have to remain villainous! AUs, roleswaps, redemption arcs, etc. are all 100% eligible. All that's required is for your central character (or half of your pairing or part of your OT3, etc.) to be somebody unambiguously villainous in the original canon.
Check-in #1
The main requirements for Check-in #1 are:
-1-3k of your story done (Scout's honor is enough, but you'll want something to show your artist!)
-Vague, vague outlining at least so your artist will know what's up
-A summary and AO3-style tags for claiming
This should be emailed to this address (siarledwarddraper@gmail.com) on or before May 1st. This check-in is mandatory - we need this information to assign you an artist! - and if we don't receive something from you by the 5th, you will be dropped from the event.
Villain Approvals
We were doing these individually, but have started losing track (cruddy epidemic anxiety.) So here are a few last villain approvals (and rejections), which we will add to the eligibility list for anybody still searching for inspiration.
DC Comics - Deathstroke/Slade Wilson and Black Mask are eligible. Earth-3 Dick Grayson appears to be an anti-hero/tragic hero even in that setting, although we are ABSOLUTELY open to this one being argued; we don't know the canon well enough.
Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? - Carmen Sandiego is eligible.
Spartacus - Ashur is eligible.
MCU - Erik Killmonger and Nebula are both eligible.
Doctor Who - The Master is eligible.
Harry Potter - Peter Pettigrew is eligible.
Fight Club - Tyler Durden is eligible.
If you mentioned a villain in your sign up which you haven't had confirmed, it likely just slipped through the cracks - go ahead and reach out to us, either here or through Dreamwidth or Discord!
